Video Games Future, Far Beyond the Limit
I have recently been thinking about where video games could take in the future. I hope to work in the game industry one day after I finished university and I was wonder about it a lot. What I want to see happen in the future? Well, I can not have too many answers at the moment, but I came with some ideas that I think may come into “play” in a not too distant future. Firstly forget the virtual reality as we know it. They tried VR glasses and they made a lot of people sick to do so. It’s probably never going to work very well in its present form. They are still there and you can still buy them, but they do not seem to be really taking off. It will likely take a lot of people totally immersed and involved in a new form of gameplay. It is threatening to lose contact with the outside world and people around you are not going to enjoy it much either.
The Sci-fi neural implants are also both far and would probably not be accepted by a majority of the general population without some serious marketing and luck. Personally, I am not planning on through brain surgery just to have a computer attached to my head. In fact, I do not want anyone ever to be able to plug into my brain. A technology that has been brought to my attention by a zealous presenter at the local level “Science and Technology Centre” (a kind of science museum, designed to make science fun for children and young adults, such as yours truly) is that of “augmented reality.” Augmented Reality is mainly composed of virtual elements in the real world, as a transparent pair of glasses which can display certain elements on top of what is actually there. I agree with the presenter, in fact, that it might have some impressive potential.
Forget all applications such as socially beneficial workers to be able to view underground pipes before digging, to think from a point of view of games. This technology could provide the players with the ability to run around looking like complete idiots shooting at things that are not really there and that nobody else can see, a bit like in the movie “They Live!” The flip side of what would very amusing. A group of people from the University of South Australia has set up the ‘ARQuake “http://wearables.unisa.edu.au/projects/ARQuake/www/, merging the classic shooter Quake augmented reality with this technology. Again, this technology can never become too popular, but it would be fun to play with.
The technology led the gaming industry for a long time with new games always trying to keep one step ahead of competition. Way back, he started at the dawn of technology, and it continues to this day. 2D Graphics gives way to 3D and 3D is becoming ever better. Graphics are beginning to lose the ability to impress, they carry. The stage between Quake 2 and 3 was incredible, but DOOM 3 while being visually is not very impressive jumps and limits ahead of its competitors in the same way new games of the past. 2D Graphics encountered a similar problem, there comes a time when you can not do much more with graphic technology. This transforms the performance charts technological struggling to become art. My hope is that we will begin to turn their backs on tech demos and return to the game and make it a great entertainment. Games such as Zelda: The Wind Waker Sims, or who are trying to show a greater depth of nature through the simplification of the game is enough to portray the emotions, hopefully, become more common (and more fun … but it is only a point of view of a person…).
Technology plays a part in the transmission of emotions and history, but it is quite difficult to focus on everything at once. When technology is easier and less essential to the sale of Thursday we hope to see an increase in games that cast a lasting impression. Unfortunately somewhat the rise of “Casual Gamer ‘is likely to lead to more simplistic games being released. Although personally I would like to see the depth of the story and characters, there are a significant number of players there who want to get a game for twenty minutes or more, have a little fun, and save at the bottom until another time. These players are generally less interested in the latest technology increasingly interested in a ‘fast food’ type of entertainment that meets at the moment, despite the lack of quality or lasting effects. Let us hope that the two types of game can coexist peacefully although recently it has been found that some developers have cut down on some of the depth of a title in order to accommodate the most casual player.
As technology pushes the boundaries are slowly ahead are apportioned between the systems. We saw the Bleemcast few years ago allowing the operation of Playstation games on the Dreamcast, and the PC is able to run almost anything given the right emulation software. Consoles are in a position to compete with other consoles and new consoles are announced that promise the ability to play PC games. The Xbox 2 would have a planning model which comes in a PC case and with the possibility of having software for PC and Xbox software. Macs can emulate Windows software, and vice versa. We will probably start seeing less of a distinction between consoles and PCs as the price of the technology continues to decline and consoles continue to become more powerful and capable of competing with the most expensive computers. Ideally, we will see a single platform are in place so that everything can be implemented without buying a copious number of different machines, which does have a drawback in that it can establish a monopoly for a particular company.
The technology of lower prices and the increase in power has also lead to more powerful machines, hand-held before. Real games, and not just simple toys are now available to the market for portables. The advent of PDA and mobile phones with the ability to play a game that educates the game portable and new competitors are starting to arrive on the ground which was once largely dominated by Nintendo’s Game Boy. There is a new product, gp32, which can operate with many emulators and as a result, many systems different games (including some PC games). I can not say with certainty what will happen, but these are just a few ideas that I had recently. Let us hope that the gaming industry will continue to strive to new heights with new and interesting game, stories, characters and ideas. I am excited to see what happens in the next few years.
