Coffee Roasting, the Art of It

Similar to the achievement of good or a hand-rolled cigars, some consider roasting coffee as an art.

There are usually four different categories of roast. A light roast (American), a medium roast (Breakfast), a roast dark (French), and darker roast (espresso or Italian). Each type of roast gives a different aspect of coffee. When a bean is roasted to an American roast the beans will have a very light color and they seem dry. A medium-roast beans, or roast will be a rich brown color and will be oily. A French roasted coffee bean will be very bold with beans appearing very dark brown. The darkest roasted espresso beans or black beans appear.

Roasting can be easily done in your home. According to the roast as you wish, you can roast coffee in five to fifteen minutes. Green beans are available from a number of suppliers and roasters. Choose different types of green coffee in the sample. Drum roasters are very popular for home use. It is preferable to consider buying a roaster because it gives you the most consistent with the arrival of beans. Some try to roast beans in frying pans, some use hot air popcorn poppers. Although each of these techniques , as indicated above, they do not finish for all the beans and you will probably be disappointed by the result.
