The effect of pheromones in the behavior of insects is the most studied so far. It has been observed, at least in some experiments, that pheromones are responsible for communication between the same species, and a colony of ants. The horrible smell released by skunks to scare enemies is said to be a kind of pheromone. Some species of monkeys rub pheromone containing urine on the feet of potential mates to attract them.
