Domain Registration For Newbies
When you launch a new site, you must register a unique domain name with a registrar authorized. When the Internet was starting, all domain names and IP addresses have been registered by an organization, Internic. At the end of Network Solutions has taken over the role of “guardian” of Internet domain names. Today, there are hundreds of websites where you can register your domain name Network Solutions, but still maintains the largest database of domain names.
Some Web sites charge as little as $ 2.95 per year for your domain name while others charge as much as $ 35 per year for the same service. Some even offer one year costs if you register your domain name with them and host your site on their server. Why pay $ 35 when you can register your domain name for much less at another site?
So why does Network Solutions charge $ 35 a year if they are the keeper of the database and their dealers to charge a fraction or even nothing? Who knows and who cares! Register your domain with a cheaper and you’ll be fine. A word of caution - care that you choose to host your site. Getting a free year of your domain name is worth nothing if your host is not reliable and your site is down more than sound.
You pay for your domain name on an annual basis. It is a specific charge of your web hosting bill. When you register your domain name choose the option of automatic renewal if it is available. In this way, your domain name will not expire if you forget to renew it. If your domain name expires, it is free for anyone to register so that you should stay on when it is expiring. Also registering your domain name for a 3 to 5 years often save money. For example, godaddy costs $ 8.95 a year for your domain name but only $ 7.25 a year if you register for a term of 5 years.
When you register your domain, you can create different names. The three contacts are Administrator, technical and billing. Most of the time the same person is all contacts 3. If you web designer register your domain name for you, make sure you are designated as administrative contact. This gives you control over the domain name and you have to be notified if someone is trying to make changes to your file. If you are not one of contacts then someone can transfer ownership of the domain name without your permission.
To see a recording of your domain name, go to networksolutions and use their usefulness WHOIS which is located in the lower left corner of their homepage. Simply enter your domain name and click Search. You will see the complete list of your domain name, where he is registered and where your site is hosted. When you register your domain name you will be able to make a private recording. I strongly recommend to pay the additional fee to your information confidential.
If you leave your registration everybody can seek information from your area that includes the house or your address and your e-mail. Many spammers scanning public domain registration records to find e-mail spam. I always uses a hotmail or Yahoo email account upon registration of my areas. That way, if spammers to find my e-mail, I can just get a new “disposable” e-mail and I will not receive spam in my e-mail.
Always make sure your registration area remains blocked. Lock your domain name is an element implemented a few years ago. If you want to transfer your domain name to another registrar, you must unlock. Once it is released the new registrar can “draw” your domain name of your current registrar. Once the transfer is completed, the domain name will be blocked to prevent anyone from “pull” your domain away from you.
